Coil heaters are small, linear heating elements that can be formed into different shapes and configurations. Coiled heaters are high performance heaters which allow high wattage in a limited space.
The ability to shape coiled heaters when cold enables to heat up parts with different shapes. These heaters are typically used in nozzles and hot runners in the plastic and packing industries, but also in the railway, chemical (rubber processing), car and glass industries, hot stamping, foundries and wood treatment processes.
During coiling, the gap between turns of coil can be modified to compensate for the heat losses at each end of the coil or to insert the heating element into slots. Coiled heaters can also be cast into aluminum or bronze.
The coiled heater’s sheath material is made of stainless steel; 80/20 nickel chromium resistance wire is used for a melting temperature of 1400°C and it is manufactured with heavily compressed mineral insulator (MGO). The maximum operating temperature is 650°C or 1200°F on the stainless steel sheath and 260°C on the connection and cables.
Coiled heaters can accommodate type “J” or “K” thermocouple sensors. They can also be manufactured with distributed wattage configuration.

General Recommendations:
Do not reshape a heater that has already been shaped.
Coiled heater must be fitted tight on the heated part.
Heating element of coiled heater must be connected to the earth.
If the heater has not been used in a long time, heat it progressively during short periods of time. This will enable to get humidity out of the element.
Protect cables and connections against any material intrusion and do not exceed recommended temperatures of 260°C/500°F continuously.
